How to put an addition onto your house and make it look like it belongs

house9827399.jpg
Building an addition onto your home takes consideration as there are several things to consider when making additions. One of those considerations is how put an addition onto your house and make it look like it belongs. Anyone can add onto their house, but making it match what you already have can be tricky.

You want the "add on" to flow and have continuity inside and outside the house. You don't want your addition to look like an "add on" structurally or in terms of décor. For example building a huge addition onto a home in a modest neighborhood will definitely give you more space, but when or if you decide to sell you may not get the return you are looking for. So be sure that you consider all things when you are thinking of adding onto your already existing home; neighborhood, décor, and materials.

Before you actually begin your project you need to consider a few other things:

  • Fixtures: Since this is essentially considered a new construction you will more than likely have to find new fixtures.

  • Structural problems: There are definitely going to be structural changes to the existing part of the home; such things as roof details, or any problems with the already existing foundation.

  • Permits: You are more than likely going to have to have to permits for new plumbing, electrical, and even a builder's permit.

Adding value to your home through a remodel is a great way to make some extra money when you finally decide to sell your house or it's just nice to have some updates throughout your home while you're living there. It's good to know which rooms will get you the biggest return and what to do if you're looking to add some true value to your home.

Remodeling a Kitchen
Kitchens are probably the most expensive room to remodel but worth every penny you put into them. If you're planning on selling your home after the remodel buyers will almost always look at the state of the kitchen. Kitchen's (and bathrooms) sell homes so don't skimp out on your kitchen when you're thinking of making some changes. Cabinetry, hardware, along with new counter tops and floors can make a huge difference in how a kitchen looks. If you don't want to replace the cabinets then try painting them just to spruce them up a bit and adding some new hardware. Paint can change the feel and look of any room so put some color on the walls while you're adding some nice counter tops (granite and corian are extremely popular today) and floors. Much of the work can be done on your own to help save you some money in the long run.
