Bathroom remodel money savers

Bathroom remodeling is a great way to update your home and add to its overall resale value. Many people are choosing to remodel their bathrooms to make them more modern, more personal, and more fitting with their wants and needs.

But like all remodeling jobs, bathroom remodels can be pretty pricey. If you are planning a bathroom remodel, the following are some helpful bathroom remodel money savers:

Price and set a budget.
One reason bathroom remodels quickly become so expensive is because of the unexpected costs that add up and send you quickly over budget, so you are forced to either leave your bathroom partially unfinished or spend more money than expected to finish the remodel. The easiest way to prevent this is determine how much you want to spend, then price out what renovations you want to make to your bathroom and prioritize them.

Compare prices.
A great way to save money on your bathroom remodel is to simply shop around. Price out fixtures, tile, flooring, sinks, and so forth at different hardware stores and supply shops for the best prices. Find out when their big sales are, or check the local ads for coupons and discounts.

In addition, don't overlook websites like ebay or craigslist, which often have fixtures and other things for your bathroom remodel at a very discounted rate. Make sure you also look at the clearance section of flooring and tile supply stores-they may have just what you're looking for.

Don't move the plumbing.
An easy way to save money on your bathroom remodel is to leave the plumbing where it is. That means not changing the location of the tub, toilet, or sink. Instead, find a way to work around them. You can still update them or replace them, but moving the toilet across the room or swapping it with the location of the sink will be costly because it requires an experienced plumber to come in and do the work. It may also require additional inspections.

Do the work yourself.
It's no secret that the cost of labor is one of the most expensive parts of a remodel. You can eliminate or at least greatly reduce labor costs by doing most of the work yourself. Some of the easier things include demolition work such as tearing out tile and fixtures (be sure to turn off the water), installing new fixtures, painting, and putting in new lighting. For the more adventurous, you can even learn how to lay your own tile by reading a few how-to books or watching tutorials.

Consider rehabilitating
Because new showers and tubs are so pricey, consider saving money by having your bath or shower updated through the use of a company that will re-glaze or redo your bath or shower. Also called bath fitters, these companies will redo your tub, shower, and backsplash, often for a fraction of the cost of new tubs and showers.

But your own fixtures and tiles
If you are remodeling through a contractor and still want to save a little money, tell the contractor you would like to purchase your own fixtures or tiles. This will save you money because typically, a contractor will mark up each item around 10% of the retail price for the trouble of finding and getting them. This can easily be done yourself.

If you are looking for bathroom remodel money saves, the above are just a few ways you can cut costs on your bathroom remodeling.
