Bathroom remodeling for small spaces

Remodeling a bathroom can be a challenging experience even for the most experienced do-it-yourselfer, but can be even more difficult when there is only a small space to work with. Just because there isn't a lot of room doesn't mean that you can't still have a stylish and very effective bathroom space. Here are some tips for making the most of your space in a small bathroom.

Most homes have at least one relatively small bathroom, but that doesn't mean it can't become a luxurious space. You may need help from a plumber if you run into trouble, but there are still a lot of things you can do on your own to make your little bathroom a more usable space.

One of the most effective ways to make a bathroom feel bigger is to create reflection and the illusion of more space. Using mirrors effectively can be a great way to make a small space bigger. While some designs tend to take the mirror suggestion too far, there is still a lot of value to having a large mirror above the sink to make the whole space feel bigger. If there is space on a wall for a full length mirror, this can also be a great way to add more dimension to the space and make it feel bigger. Depending on the style you are looking to accomplish, the mirror should also be a design element in the bathroom. You don't have to have a bland, straight edged mirror, but can frame it or put trim around it to make it look more like an art piece. Some people even incorporate mirrors into the design of the bathroom by using mirrored or iridescent tiles that reflect light.

Lighting is also a very important consideration in small spaces. It's important to find a balance in small bathrooms because you want to make the area feel light and airy, but don't want it to feel like there is a spotlight on you all the time. A light above the mirror is a fairly standard fixture in modern bathrooms and should probably be used, but this fixture can also be accompanied by recessed lighting over the shower or tub or even over the toilet. It's important that all of the areas in the bathroom get the lighting coverage they need. Mirrors are more effective at making a bathroom feel larger when they are accompanied by the right amount of light in the right places.

Color is also something that is essential to consider when remodeling your bathroom. White is frequently used in small bathrooms, but you can also use an off-white color to make it more attractive. As you look at photos of bathrooms in general, you will notice that they are normally a lighter color than other areas in a home. This is because most bathrooms are smaller than other rooms in the home. One essential thing to know about color design is that darker colors tend to make a space feel more enclosed and tight. This is why darker colors are typically used in larger areas of the home. On the other hand, brighter colors make spaces feel more expansive and airier. You don't have to choose white for your bathroom, and this doesn't mean that color can't be used in small spaces, but if you are looking to make the area feel larger, it's a good idea to use a lighter tone of the color you want.

No matter what size your bathroom is, you can make it feel bigger and more comfortable with these few suggestions on remodeling. Use accessories to add color and life to the bathroom and you won't mind spending more time there to just relax.
