Choosing paint colors

When a person is remodeling their home, there are many things that they have to consider. One of these things is paint color. Choosing the right colors of paint can really affect the feeling of the entire house. This article talks about how a person can chose the right paint colors when they are remodeling their home.

Take your time

It is a good idea for a person to take their time when they are choosing paint colors. This is not something they should rush into. Usually it will, and should, take more than one or two trips to the paint store. When a person goes to a paint store, they should go during a time when they won't feel rushed, or stressed. They should take their time at the store, and look at as many different paint swatches as they want.

After a person has taken time to look through all of the paint swatches, they should pick as many as they want to take them home. The reason that those paint swatches are there are for people to take them home so that they can decide on the best color pf paint for their house, room, etc.

There are also fan decks available that have every color of paint from a particular manufacturer. These do cost money however, usually around $20 and a person needs to ask for one if they are interested in using it to help them choose their paint colors. A person can use this fan deck to see if the color of paint looks good at their home and not just at the store.

Feeling

There are both warm and cool colors. These different tones relay different moods and feelings. Because rooms in a home have different purposes, some people like to choose paint colors that will help to bring about an appropriate mood for the particular room. Examples of warm colors include yellow, red, pink, or orange, and some examples of cool colors are green, violent, and blue.

Background vs. accent colors

There is a difference between a background paint color and an accent paint color. It is important for a person to know the difference when they are choosing paint colors for their home. Background colors are like foundation makeup. The color of the wall should be a background color so that it can show off the accessories that are in the room. Accent colors are like lipstick, blush, and eye shadow. Choosing an accent color for a wall in place of a background color is a mistake.

But choosing a neutral color for the background, so that the accessories such as furniture, flooring, and accent fabrics etc., can be accented does not mean a person has to choose a tan or beige color. Each color swatch has a neutral shade that is most influenced by the other colors around it. Usually this color is in the middle of the strip of colors.

Wall, ceiling, trim

A person needs to choose the right neutral paint colors for the wall, ceiling, and trim. Though there are different "right" color choices depending on the look a person is trying to achieve, there are usually two light shades, two medium, and two dark shades on a neutral paint strip to make choosing the colors easier. Generally, the walls should be painted the darker of the two medium shades.

The choice of colors for the ceiling should be painted two shades lighter than the color of the wall if the ceiling is nine feet or lower. If the room has a high ceiling it should be painted one shade darker than the walls.

The trim in the room should usually be painted the lightest color from the color swatch. This includes the doors, moldings, windows, etc. Keeping the trim light can help draw attention to the doors and windows of the room.
