Choosing the right location for building your home
Choosing the right location for building your home can honestly make the difference in everything. There are many things to consider when building your home and finding the right location. Let's take a look at some things you might want to consider about location before you begin to build.
1. Neighborhood. When you are considering building a home, the neighborhood is extremely important. The type of neighborhood will differ depending on you. If you are single and want to live in an area with little or no children you may want to consider building a condo type home or town home where others can either live with you, or at least in close proximity. If you are a couple that would like to live in a neighborhood with children you will probably want to be in a location close to a park or nearby school. You can always ask builders in the neighborhood what the buyer types are in the neighborhood.
2. Land. For some home builders land is not an issue. They are concerned with just their home so they buy a lot that is big enough for their home without the upkeep of a huge yard. This is something to consider when you are deciding where to build your home. If you have a large family with small children you might want to consider building your home in a place where you can have a lot of land; or at least a big enough back yard for your kids to play in. Geographical problems are another thing you will want to look into and consider as you choose the right location for building your home. Some places get more rain, some get more snow, and in some places there are places called "fault" lines; if you are worried about an earthquake you may want to consider building somewhere else. Other issues may be if you are building on a hill you may get mudslides which may cause the foundation of your home to slide also. The land you build on is an important consideration.
3. The View. Everyone has different tastes you just need to know your own. Whether or not you have a view from your where you will build your new home plays a role in where you will build. Do you want a view of the ocean, or maybe a view of the mountains? Do you want to build up on a hill or mountain so you have a great view of the city? Or does it not matter what you are looking at from your home? Something to consider when you decide on the location of your new home.
4. Zoning. It is extremely popular these days for people to work from the comfort to of their own homes. If you need to run a business out of your home you will need to check and see if the location you have picked is zoned for the business you want to run. Each residential area is zoned differently so be sure to check with your contractor, or better yet city hall to figure out what the area zoning is.
5. Appreciation. This may or may not be a factor in the location of your new home. It really depends on your purpose of building. If you will be building your new home for the purpose of selling it then you will want to build in an area where you are confident that it will appreciate over time. Certain neighborhoods will appreciate differently so check into the value of homes before you make a solid decision on the location of building your home.
