Choosing your colors, flooring, counters, etc. when building
There are so many different things that you have to think about when it comes to building a house. You have to think about what sub contractors you are going to have do what work. You have to take into consideration how much different things cost. You also have to take into consideration what type of look you are going for and then you can get a better idea when choosing your colors, flooring, counters, ect. when building. Here are some tips to help you out.
The first tip is to make sure that you coordinate all of your colors. For example if you pick a cabinet color see if you can get a sample so that when you go pick out counter tops and flooring you can see what it is going to look like once it is all put together. This will also help you to see what things don't look good together and which things will look better. Sometimes you have in your mind what you think something is going to look like but don't realize how different things look once you put all the colors next to each other.
The second tip is when you are picking out paint colors. You want to make sure that you pick paint colors that are flattering and inviting. You want to make sure that the colors your pick will make a room look bigger instead of smaller. You also want to make sure that you pick colors for your base boards that will go with your wall colors. If you are unsure about a color and what it is going to look like you may want to ask your painter if they would be willing to get a sample of the paint color and meet you up at your house so that your painter can put a little on the wall so that you can see what color the wall is going to look like with the sunlight that is going to be in the room. You need to remember that most paints go a shade lighter once you get them on the wall. You will also want to keep in mind that if you are going with a brown beige color for your walls that depending on the sunlight that you have your paint might end up looking pink or yellow depending on the under tones of the paint.
The third tip is to pay attention to what color of carpet you pick out. You might want to take your paint samples with you when you pick out carpet so that you can pick carpet that is going to accent your paint and not end up making it look a different color like pink or grey. You will also want to try to pick out carpets for your high traffic areas that can hide stains and dirt so that your carpet won't look dirty. You will also want to get a higher quality carpet for the higher traffic areas so that your carpet doesn't mat and end up looking worn out and actually wearing out in a short amount of time.
These are just a few of the tips to think about when you are choosing your colors, flooring, counters, etc. There are a lot of other things that you are going to have to make decisions on so make sure that you take the time to actually think about the different options that you have so that you make the right decisions when building.
