Update the shower
Replace your shower head with an updated body spray shower head. The shower curtains probably also need a makeover so change the shower curtains and the style of the shower curtain rod. If the tub is old and stained, there are a variety of new tubs styles and shapes to choose from. There are many beautiful corner tubs, drop in tubs, freestanding tubs, and even whirlpool tubs.

Consider changing the vanity and toilet
If the bathroom vanity is in good shape, you could simply dress it up by replacing the bathroom vanity countertop and possibly the bathroom sink. Just changing faucets in your sink and the handle on your toilet can give a bathroom an updated look. If you do decide to replace the sink there are plenty of sinks that are easy to replace and are easy to install yourself. If your vanity is old, stained or damaged you can usually find a replacement one at a home improvement store that doesn't cost very much money.

New towels and accessories
Something as easy as putting new matching towels on the towel rods that even match with the curtain will really brighten up the room. Consider even other accessories such as matching soap container, matching trash can and a few matching pictures. This can update a bathroom all on its own, not to mention it is fairly inexpensive.

Changing the bathroom fixture
Upgrade the bathroom light fixtures when remodeling your bathroom, it can do wonders. Also change the type of light that you have been using. Most people want brighter bathrooms. Older bathrooms usually had one or two bulbs in the middle of the ceiling. Consider installing a new ceiling fan and light as well as more lighting above the mirror. Don't forget brighter light bulbs.

Replace the bathroom mirror
A lot of times outdated bathroom mirrors look old and may have permanent damage. Consider changing the old mirror with a framed or beveled wood frame mirror. Having framed mirror will definitely update the look in there and you will enjoy looking into the mirror a little more.

Replace flooring
Replace the bathroom flooring when remodeling your bathroom. Older bathrooms frequently have old, yellowing vinyl flooring and it is probably coming up around the edges of the bathroom. Ceramic floor tiling is very beautiful and many homeowners prefer it. The great thing about ceramic floor tiling is that it is easy to install on your own. One thing to keep in mind when you are replacing flooring, if you have plans of removing the vanity and toilet as part of updating your bathroom, then install the ceramic tile before you reinstall the vanity and toilet. This will save a lot of time!

Updating the look of your bathroom does not have to be an expensive project. There are many easy ways to update a bathroom. Replacing a few fixtures and lights with a fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference. Don't continue living in a bathroom that hasn't been touched since your grandmother. Take the time to update it and you will be surprised at how much nicer it is when use your own bathroom.
