Garage Organizing
While the garage was intended to be a place to store and protect your car, it has become much more than that. The garage has taken on the role of workshop, storage unit, dance studio, spare room, band practice room, etc. The uses of the garage are endless, and thus, a lot of stuff gets put in the garage. So, how do you keep your garage functional and useful? Through garage organizers. Garage organizing is not difficult if you go about it in a systematic way. You can find an organizer to fit all of your needs. So, let's take a look at some of the common items found in the garage, and some useful tools for organizing these items:
Besides the car, one of the items stored commonly in a garage are other means of transportation, such as bicycles. A good way to organize these items, and http://www.autoanything.com/garage-accessories/69A1295A0A0.aspxmaximize the space in your garage is with a bike rack of sorts. You can use a hoisted bike rack that works sort of like a Venetian blind, with an easy pull of a hoist rope, the bike is safely locked into place. Or you can use a horizontal bike storage unit, a wall mount bike rack, etc. When you get a bike rack of whatever variety for garage organizing, find one that maximizes space, is easy to use, offers extra storage for helmets, etc. and that comes with a warranty. There is no sense spending money on an organizer that won't function properly, or that is too difficult to operate. Look for a bike rack that is made of a sturdy solid construction and a durable finish. It is best if you also find one that has no assembly required, because that might also stop you from using your new garage organizing tool.
What else is often stored in a garage? Well, you get items like the camping gear, old clothes, baby items (in between babies), yearbooks, and other memorabilia stored in boxes, tools, sports equipment, etc. So, the next logical step in garage organizing is to sort your things into categories. As you sort them, eliminate anything you have not used in the last six months (unless it is something like ski equipment that is only used during certain times of the year), for seasonal items eliminate them if you have not used them in the last two years. Donate them to a local Salvation Army and get a tax write off for your stuff.
Once it is sorted and weeded through, look into shelving. Having a nice wall of shelving in a garage is never a bad idea. You can use the space for all sorts of things, from your golf clubs to your gardening tools. There are several options for shelving for garage organizing. The best option would be to invest in some permanent shelving of sorts, because this ensures that you stay organized. However, if permanent shelving is not appealing, look for sturdy metal shelving that can be anchored to your garage walls, and will hold up well.
Use weather proof bins to store loose articles like balls and sports equipment, and label them. Put Christmas decorations, and other holiday décor on lower shelves where they are easy to reach when needed. Put old trinkets and things you can't part with, but rarely use on the higher shelves, as they do not need to be as accessible.
If you have a set of tools, have a designated spot for them so you can always find them. Consider installing a tool wall, and some hooks to hang your drills, saws, etc. on for easy access. Put hooks in the wall for the broom, dustpan, and any other item used regularly in the garage. You will always know where it is, and your garage will look nice and organized.
