Garden Walkways

Your yard is a great place for free expression, you can use it to be as artistic and creative as you want. In fact, your yard should be your canvas, and you should be the painter. When we look at our yards and gardens, one of the things we see and must consider is the walkways that lead the eye and the foot where they should go.

We have garden walkways for many reasons, one is the purely aesthetic reason of beauty. Garden walkways are a great way to make a plain yard into a beautiful and elaborate looking garden.

Another reason we have garden walkways is to protect the plants, grass, flowers, etc. that are in our gardens from being stepped on. Walkways are just for that, walking on, and they help lead people where they can go for the most optimal view with trampling on and ruining the plants found in the garden. We all want to protect our grass from being ruined, and the easiest way to do this is to create a stepping stone or other type of garden walkway.

A third reason we have garden walkways is to save time and money. A walkway only has to be put in once, and requires little to no maintenance, where as flower beds have to be constantly watered and maintained. So, adding a walkways is a decorative and artistic way to continue the beauty of the garden but cut back on watering and weeding.

Let's take a look at some of the options you have for garden walkways, and then discuss a couple in some depth. For garden walkways you can have something as simple as a dirt path lined with stone, redwood poles, etc. Another option is a flagstone walkway or path. Another option for a beautiful garden walkway is a stepping stone path.

A stepping stone walkway in the garden has the appeal of giving a natural and beautiful feel. If built well, it can really makes your garden stand out. Using a steppingstone garden walkway is the perfect way to enhance the natural beauty, and make your garden or yard more functional. However, if it is not made properly, it will be an eyesore and a problem, so you want to be sure to do it right. The same goes for a beautiful flagstone or pebble walkway.

For any garden walkway you choose, the first thing you want to do is mark the path. You need to know exactly what areas are going to be a curved or straight, and you can mark these with ropes. You can also mark the area with the help of lime stone powder, as this is also very effective.

The next step after you have properly marked where the path will be is to arrange the material in the area. Whether that is stepping stone, flagstone, etc. you want it to fit nicely. Ensuring the right placing is important, and so you want to make sure everything is placed well before you cement it in. So, once everything fits, and you know that it will, you will want to dig out the area, remove any grass, and make sure the base of where you put the walkway is stable and can hold the material without future problems of sinking, slipping etc. You also want to make sure that the walkway and pathway is balanced and level or it will be hazardous. So, make sure everything is the same height and not a hazard. If you can do this, not only will you achieve a natural and striking looking garden walkway, but you will also have a place to stroll in beauty for years to come.
