When you build a house, you need to build one that is going to work for you. I know it does not sound possible, but truth is, your house can be an asset that works to your advantage. It can also make your house more valuable. So, a great way to make money through planning is to plan a house that works for you, rather than the other way around.

The following is a list of ten ways you can make the house you build work for you:

  1. Have the house clean your water- having a water filtration system installed means that the house filters your water, and you don't have to mess with it. Sounds good huh?
  2. Have the house clean the air for you- installing an air filtration system is a great way to make your house work for you. It can even help you save money by cutting down the amount of allergy producing particles in the air, so you can spend less on medications etc.
  3. Have your house store and prepare food for you- have a kitchen conducive to meal preparation, and that has room to store food so when you go to the grocery store you can buy in quantity and save on food purchases, your house becomes a convenience instead of a hindrance.
  4. Have your house help you to exercise- build a house with room to stretch, lift, run, whatever it is you do. This will save you on monthly membership fees. It is another way you can build a house that works for you. It becomes your gym.
  5. Have your house stimulate your mind- build a house that has rooms that are conducive to study, put in bookshelves, a library, or at least an office or den. This will increase the comfort of the house and stimulate your mind. Your house will encourage you to be more studious.
  6. Have a house that keeps itself clean- have a house that keeps itself clean-ha ha, right? Yes and no, build a house that minimizes clutter, that has fewer dust catching surfaces, and that has mechanical systems that produce less dust and dirt. That will mean your house works for you.
  7. Have a house that knows when to be warm and when to be cold- build a house that regulates temperature well, either through windows, landscaping, or the way you install your HVAC and insulation. Also put in some automatic systems.
  8. Have a house that supports you in your old age - build a house that is a single story, or has few stairs, that will be just as comfortable for you in 30 years as it is now. This means install grab bars in the shower now, etc. to facilitate the injuries, and maladies of old age.
  9. Have a house that entertains you- have a house that entertains you, build with your entertainment in mind. Install cable and Internet connections, and speaker wiring, throughout the house, have spaces that invite conversation, and storage for games, videos, and music.
  10. Have a house that helps you work or can help you to make a living- build a house that will allow you to make money by working from home, whether that means putting a shop space in the garage, a craft room, or simply an office. Then your house can make you a living.
  11. Have a house with automated lighting- have a house with a system for control for all of the homes lighting in a central location such as the kitchen. Also have it set so it has preset on and off buttons.
  12. Have a house with fun outside spaces- have a home that invites the outdoors in, and makes the whole home feel larger and open. It is something you will enjoy, and it will make it easier to entertain.
