Home Decorating

Home decorating is both an exciting, and challenging task. Not everyone has a huge budget for decorating, and not everyone has a knack for decorating. However, with a few simple rules, everyone can do a good job with their home decorating. They simply must have the desire to do well, and the sense to follow the ten tried and true tips:

1. If your home lacks personality, use some accessories. Anyone can go to a furniture store and buy the whole set of furniture on display, but this does not mean their home will be well decorated, or have any sort of personality. In fact, it basically means the opposite. It means their lack of creativity lead them to purchase the same thing they could find in anyone else on the block's home. Accessories, are not usually something that is easily duplicated exactly, thus, more than anything else, accessories add personality to a home. Not only do your accessories say something about you, however, they also make your home more inviting and comfortable. Accessories add real life to your home, whether those accessories are candles or knick knacks. Now there is more to decorating that just having accessories, you also need to arrange them well. Do not worry, you do not need to know much about decorating to follow a few basic principles for arranging accessories and get great results, and these principles are basically that you can arrange big with little and little with big, but try not to put lots of the same size together. You also need to arrange a focal point.

2. The next thing you should know about decorating is you should plan ahead. It is okay to experiment, and try something different if you do not like your results, but you should start by sorting through your things, and if there is something incredibly large, or special and you want to use that, plan ahead so that you can incorporate them into your design scheme, and allow these pieces to have a major impact on the room.
3. The next design and home decorating tip is to keep things balances. Balance keeps arrangements from looking lopsided, so try to go for either a symmetrical or an asymmetrical design. If you do not know what this means, it is basically that a symmetrical arrangements are perfectly equal on both sides of a central line. This type of design is most often used when looking for a more formal atmosphere. So, asymmetrical design means that you do not have mirror image on either side of a line. This is the best design type if you have a variety of pieces in different sizes, shapes and colors. Asymmetrical arrangements create an informal look by balancing the visual weight of the objects.
4. Always create groupings. When you are doing your home decorating, be sure to display objects together in odd numbers. The best groupings are combinations of three and five.
5. The next home decorating tip is to place similar objects together. Put the similar items in groups according to color, shape, or design. Basically think of it this way, a collection, such as brass picture frames, has more impact when grouped together than when scattered throughout the house.
6. The next thing you should consider for home decorating is that alternate height of pieces adds visual interest.
7. Create depth. Depth is something that is especially important on your walls, so choose frames of varying depth for your photos, use shadow boxes, clocks, or anything else that may add some depth to the space. For tops of entertainment centers, shelves etc, you can always zigzag or alternate the pieces from back to front instead of placing them in a straight line. One great way to add visual impact is to place three objects in a triangle, with the tallest piece in the back.
8. Alternate texture. This is a great home decorating tip that very few people do intentionally, but tend to stumble upon and then realize how huge of an impact this tip has at making your home décor really show. So make an effort to bring items of different textures together for a unique look. Try simple ways of doing this like alternating shiny finishes with flat ones or hard objects with softer ones. For example, mix items like ceramics, with a plant, floral arrangement or woven basket for a softer texture.
9. One of the best ways to decorate well is to find a focal point. You can you're your home more interesting by arranging everything around one major object to center the grouping.
10. Last but not least, the best way to make your home decorating look beautiful is to avoid clutter. Often times people start decorating, and do not know when to say when. Too many items can look messy and detract from your décor, so find a nice balance. If you have more accessories than you need, simply store them for a while and then switch them out for a fresh look.
