Home Dehumidifier

When building, buying, remodeling, or just looking for a little more comfort in your home, a home dehumidifier is a great item to consider. Why? Well, having improper levels of moisture in a home can result in a range of problems. These problems include headaches such as window condensation, mold growth and discomfort for the occupants. Now, why settle for the hassle of any of the above problems when a home dehumidifier can solve that problem for you?

Dehumidifiers remove moisture

What is a home dehumidifier? Well, it is a dehumidifier for the home. Go figure, meaning it is like an air conditioner that has coils to remove the moisture from the air. Its coils come with hot and cold and a fan that would let the air conditioner condense the moisture created by the cold coils of the dehumidifier. It will then produce a dry air that will go through the hot coil to bring back its original temperature.

While several years ago you needed both a dehumidifier and an air conditioner, the dehumidifier is not needed anymore if there is an air conditioner available in the room. Why? Well, you will still want to check that your AC does this, but for the most part, air conditioners do the process of dehumidifying the moisture in the room already. Most households experience some problems when there is too much and too little moisture in the air, so the air conditioning industry finally developed an air conditioner that eliminated, or at least reduced this problem.

However, many people do not want the air dehumidified as much as it is, and as a result, they encounter problems of dry skin and itchy skin. Slightly wet air can cause the same problems.

So, the discomfort of having an air that is too dry or too wet may also lead to the cracking of furniture surfaces. The blocking of nasal passages, the continuous condensation of the moisture in windows, the expansion of molds, and the cause of rotten wood products is the effect of the dry air that is not removed.

Choosing a Dehumidifier

Thus, despite the air conditioning industry's best efforts, it is still important to have a dehumidifier in the house. So what kind of dehumidifier should you choose? Well, the following are some of the things to look for in a home dehumidifier:

1. If budget is your biggest concern then look for a dehumidifier that is a heat pump. While these items are more complex, the prices of these dehumidifiers are affordable.
2. If noise is an issue, then find a dehumidifier that has a two-speed fan. These units produce less noise and gives low humidity that lessens the efficiency factor. However, you will still want to check the noise level before you buy it, by actually turning it on.
3. For a smaller house, buy units of dehumidifiers that have a rating of 10 L (21 U.S. pints or 2.1 imperial gallon) a day. These units may fit on those small houses that have an average moisture resistance. Their prices may range from $200 to $250 per unit.
For a larger house, look for dehumidifiers that have 20 L (42 U.S. pints or 4.2 imperial gallons) a day rating. They cost more per unit, but these units are best for big and town houses.

4. For hot weather climates, buy chemical absorbent dehumidifiers. However, it is important to note that these units are only suitable for places that have hot weather climates.

5. If operating cost is your main concern then look for the (EF) or the Efficiency Factor of the unit. This is the guide to know the amount of the dehumidifier's operation cost. This information should be included in the manual, or as a label on the actual unit.

While this information on home dehumidifiers should help you know how to choose the right unit for your home, you should ask a knowledgeable sales representative in your specific area what is suggested.
