Home Phone Service
When selecting a home phone service you should first take a look at your home phone usage habits. This is the best way to start as it will help to determine your needs in a service provider.
There are many home phone service providers out there, so know what you want and what an average rate is, and find one that fits your needs, and has a low price, as well as extra features and upgrades should your needs change. Then ask the following questions to make sure you are going to be taken care of.
1. If rates or terms of service change, how far in advance will I be notified? You should be notified at least 45 days in advance, and you should be able to change home phone service providers if you are not happy with the changes, at no cost.
2. What is your customer satisfaction rating?
3. How long has the company been around?
4.When will I receive a statement about my terms of service, and who can I call if I do not understand something I am being billed for? Your home pone service company should send you the terms of service within 3-5 days of ordering their services.
5.May I keep my telephone number if I change my service provider? While the service provider does not want you to change, in most cases, the answer should be yes, if you are staying in the same location.
6.What happens if your service provider goes out of business? Generally they should give you ample warning, and notification in writing to allow you time to obtain other service.
7.After I choose my service provider when will my new service start? This will depend on the provider, but they should give you a date and time that service will begin.
8. What is the price of the least expensive local basic service plan and what is included? This gives you a good idea of what you are paying for the upgrades you want, and whether or not it is worth that price.
9. What does the home phone service provider charge for local calls (per minute/per call)? Or is it a flat monthly rate?
If so, how many calls can I make for that rate?
If you don't have a flat rate, are your calls billed in 1 minute
or 30 second time blocks?
10. What is the local calling area? You want to know what calls you will be charged long distance for.
11. Are your rates less expensive if I sign up for local, and long-distance calling plans with you?
12. Are there any fees for switching or canceling the home phone service agreement? How much do you charge?
13. Am I required to pay a deposit? If so, how much?
14. Is there a fee for a late payment? If so, how much?
15. What is the price of optional services (call waiting, caller ID, voicemail)? Do you offer a package price for these services?
16. Do you have a local calling package for wireless phone service should I wish to include it with my home phone service?
17. Do you have special rates if I get other services such as television, Internet, and Wireless phone services along with my home phone service?
18. What are your business hours, and do you have a toll free customer service line?
19. What services do you offer? You may want to only ask about the home phone services you want. Which may include one or more of the following:
Call Waiting
Caller ID
Call Forwarding
Voice Mail
Three-Way Calling
Call Block
Others
20. What are the individual prices versus the group rates for the following other services:
Wireless phone
Internet Connection
Pager
Television
