How to not get behind schedule even if the weather is bad. When your building a home weather is always a factor. Any time you have a large project you want to make a plan.

Here is how to make that plan so you can stay on schedule.

First, you need to make a schedule with how much you want to accomplish each day. Then make it fit the deadline. This is so that you will be done on the date that the project is due. The best way to be sure that you will succeed, is by planning what you can do, not what you think you can do. Also it's important to keep a steady speed that is reasonable

Second, you should try to keep up with the daily weather and check it often for any sudden changes. If you do happen to live in places that have a lot of sudden weather changes. You have a few choices like, starting work at a later time. Also by asking people to work overtime, or by asking if some of them mind coming in on a Saturday for a few hours.

Third, you will want to make a list of all the supplies that will be necessary. This would include tools, wood, shingles, etc. Also, you will need to make sure that you have the adequate amount of help. This way you will not be stuck in a jam, when the weather gets bad and time is running closer to the deadline.

Fourth, you should always have a back up plan. The reason you should have a back up plan is so that you have a better chance of meeting your deadline. Even if you make a mistake or if your first plan are not as good as you anticipated. Another good thing to do is have a back up plan that has two choices and then choose which one of them suit the situation. Also be prepared for what could happen so you can build your back up plan around the fact of possibilities

Fifth, make sure before you take a job that you have all the tools necessary. Also many of jobs will need special and expensive tools that most people do not have. That is one of the ways you can risk having issues with meeting the deadline. Another way is by planning more work then you are capable. Therefore, set proper expectations of what is possible. Also, by not having enough work can cause you to loose people so it has to be thought over very well.

Sixth, trying to plan an outside job around weather is very hard. A suggestion is to try to keep a good attitude when working in bad weather. Some people think when you're happy it is easy to overlook the bad. Also if you reward people by telling them they are doing a good job you will get better results. People always like to know they are appreciated.

Finally you should try to keep your fastest crew on the job that needs to be done first. Also, if needed you can try to put two crews together. Then see if that makes a difference. If you make a schedule you shouldn't have this problem. That is the reason we strongly encourage anyone who is having this problem to next time, make a schedule and follow these easy steps to success. This is how to keep from getting behind schedule, even when the weather is bad.
