How important is the elevation of your home?

Your home is very important to you. There are countless hours you have put into maintaining it and making it look as good as you can. You have pampered it and tried to give it the best treatment possible so that it continues to give you pleasure or will give it to those who will own the house after you. You have invested a great amount of time and probably money as well into making it look as good as possible. There are many important things that influence the value of your home and the way that it looks to other people. One of these factors is the elevation of your home. Here is some information for you to understand how important elevation is to you and your home.

To begin with, let's determine what we mean by elevation. In this case we aren't talking about the height or the altitude of your home although this is also important. Elevation in this instance refers to the appearance of the home from the outside. How many different rooflines there are, how many curves and corners around the house, how many different levels there are and if they are all the same shape and size, etc. Basically, elevation is the way that the house looks like from the outside. Elevation is important because it is the first thing anyone sees. You will probably not even want to know what a home looks like inside if it isn't appealing from the outside. So elevation is very important whether you plan on selling your home or just want to enjoy it yourself.

It is important to understand that, depending on the time and the current trends and popular styles, different elevations will be more appealing to some people than others. At any given point it is true that some designs just look better than others. If you are planning of selling your house, it is a good idea to have elevations similar to other homes in the area and the particular styles that are most common and popular at the time. The reason for this is that it will appeal to a larger number of buyers and therefore have more potential buyers to begin with. If the elevation and design of your house is tailored to a specific style of type of person not necessarily the norm in your area, it may be more difficult to generate much interest in it.

It's a good idea to keep in mind that some designs look cheap or dated even though they may cost a great deal to construct. Dormers are very popular in some areas, but would be considered cliché and out of place in others. It is important to make sure that your home fits the style of other surrounding ones and that you don't add on unnecessary features that will cost you money and not necessarily bring back more value.

A good benchmark to judge the elevation you your house is " Do I like the way it looks?" and if not what would you change? You can also ask friends and neighbors the same question asking for their honest opinion so you can make the best decisions. The elevation of your home is important for many reasons and there are many different options to consider if you want to change it in any way. It is good to plan ahead and determine if any money spent on it will provide a sufficient return to justify the costs in time, effort and money. Do some research on the demographics in your area to make the best choices about the elevation of your house should you choose to make any changes. It could bring you a higher resale value or just a more enjoyable experience for yourself.

I have actually watched people walk away from a home they were considering buying because of their first impression, the outside. You see it in the paper or the agent shows you a picture, but you just don't know what it really looks like -- feels like -- until you arrive at the address and take it in for the first time. So, I totally agree that elevation has a great deal to do with the selling of a home. Thanks for the info.
