How to check out your contractors to make sure they are honest

There are a lot of different things that you have to worry about when you are building a home. One thing that you shouldn't have to worry about is if your contractor is honest or not. If you want to make sure that a contractor is honest or not before you hire them there are some things you can do. Here are some tips on how to check out your contractors to make sure they are honest.

The first tip is to make sure that you interview a couple of different contractors. The best way to do this is to write down a list of questions that you have about building a home and everything involved. You also want to make sure that you add in questions about price of certain things and if the contractor will let you do sweat equity if this is something you are looking into doing.

The second tip is to make sure that you pay attention to the prices that different contractors give you. Make sure that you write them down along with their names and the different details that are included on the prices. You can then go back later and mention these prices again in a different conversation and see if the contractors stick to their original conversation or if they try to hike up prices on you.

The third tip is to check references. This is a great way to make sure that your contractors are honest. If the contractors give you a list of references that they did work for years ago you might want to be cautious because they might have been honest when they first started but might have changed their ways the longer they have been in the business. You will want to ask different references how the contractor's workmanship was and if they had any problems with anything in their house and if they did how the contractors dealt with it and ask if they fixed it right away with out any fuss. You will also want to make sure to ask the references if they had a good experience with the contractor keeping their promises as far as price goes on different things or if the price increased on the final bill.

The fourth tip is to ask around to people you know and ask who they have used and had experience with in the past when it comes to contractors. This will help you to get an idea of wha contractors come recommended and which ones do not. This will help you to save the time of not even looking into the ones that people you know do not recommend.

These are just some of the tips on how to check out your contractors to make sure they are honest. There are a lot of other things that you can do to make sure that you get the best contractors for you and know that they are honest. The worst thing you want to happen is to find out the hard way that the contractors you have hired are not honest and are either rising prices on you or not including things that were promised before. This is also why it is important that no matter how honest the contractors are you should make sure that you get everything they promise in writing. Once it is in writing it is going to be harder to fight then if they just did a verbal agreement. So make sure that you also do everything possible to keep them honest.
