How to ensure you pass your inspections
When you are building a new home there are a lot of things that you need to make sure that do to pass code. Every city is different when it comes to codes and different things they require when you are building. Making sure that you are keep code is part of your inspections. Here are some tips on how to ensure you pass your inspections.
The first tip is to make sure that you know what all of the codes are for your city. It should say on your plans that your engineer stamped. Knowing what the codes are will help you to pay more attention to detail and make sure that certain things get done right.
The second tip is to make sure that you read over your plans to see what type of instructions your engineer put for other things such as how many screws you need on the edges of your sheet rock and how many do you need in the field if any. The reason why you need to make sure to pay attention to this is because these things are what the inspector is going to be looking for.
The third tip is to make sure that your sub contractors pay attention to your plans and everything that has been called out. You don't want to get dinged on something because your sub contractors were not paying attention and did something wrong.
The fourth tip is to make sure that you keep your construction site clean and safe. If an inspector comes and the house is a disaster he is going to think that there is probably a lot of things half done because of the appearance of everything else. Because of this the inspector will probably look twice as hard at things to make sure nothing has gotten missed.
The fifth tip is to make sure that all of your electrical panels look tidy and organized. If the inspector can't tell what he is looking at because there are so many different wires all over the place he probably is going to fail you because doesn't know if everything has been hooked up correctly or not.
The sixth tip is to make sure that if some of your subcontractors need to be at the inspection that you schedule them and make sure that they are there. For example your plumber might have to be there to pressurize the lines so that the inspector can see that they work. While the HVAC guys might have to be there to show them the gas lines and how they work along with any type of paper work that might be needed from them.
The seventh tip is to go around to each outlet ahead of time and make sure it works. Some inspector will take the time to go to every plug and switch and make sure it works. If they do not work they will fail you and something that might only take you a couple of minutes to fix might end up costing you a couple of days because you didn't check it ahead of time. I will say it again because it is important make sure that you check every light and outlet so that you don't get failed because of a simple mistake.
The eighth tip is to make sure that if you have questions during the building process that you call and ask the inspector so that you can do it right the first time and not have to redo it because you were not sure and didn't call to find out.
These are just some of the tips on how to ensure your pass your inspection. The most important things is to make sure that you pay attention to detail so that everything gets done to the best of your capability.
