Remodeling your home can be a lot of work and requires more than your fair share of time. There are however ways to remodeling that don't require completely demolishing the interior and even the exterior of your home. Here are some suggestions on how to make existing fixtures work when remodeling your home.

Painting
You can change the look of your home and make a dramatic statement by just changing the color of a room. Depending on what color of paint you use will depend on the look that you create in your warm. Doing a bit of research on some different painting techniques and how colors and lighting will affect the look of a room is a good idea so you can get the look that you want. Don't limit yourself to just painting walls.

You can create a different feel by painting vanities, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and many other things. Here are some simple painting tips:

  • If you're looking to open up a space then stick with a white ceiling as this will create a more open look. Stick with lighter colors also if you want to keep the space open and feel bigger.

  • If you're looking to create a cozy look then painting the ceiling a shade darker than the walls will enclose the room more than if you just left it white. Using a darker color in the room as well as dim lighting will also create a cozy enclosed feeling.

  • Use some different painting techniques to get a more custom made painting look like sponging, faux painting, or combing. These are different types of painting styles that can give any room a different look.

  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different looks and colors. It's easy to paint over mistakes or colors you don't end up liking.

Changing Hardware
Simple hardware changes can also give the room you remodel a totally different look. Hardware can become old, rusty and outdated before you know it. With a simple change in hardware you can change the look of your furniture and the entire room. Hardware is fairly inexpensive and can be bought at your local home hardware stores like Home Depot, Lowe's or an Ace Hardware store. Some of the most popular hardware choices today are nickel and chrome. Silver is in when it comes to hardware and these types of hardware choices aren't expensive to buy. So if you're looking for a quick and easy change then try changing out your hardware.

Refinishing
Instead of ripping out a counter top or that old tile in your bathroom and kitchen you might want to look into refinishing the surface instead. Ripping out and getting new materials can be very costly so refinishing is definitely worth looking into. There are several different companies that will come and give you a free estimate of how much it will cost to refinish a counter top and backsplash or refinishing a tub or shower with or without tiles. And believe it or not you can also do it yourself. There are several web sites on the internet that you can by refinishing kits and they can also be found at home hardware stores like Lowe's. Refinishing is a quick fix to ugly counter tops and ugly bathroom tiles and tubs and costs a lot less.

These are just some simple suggestions on how to make existing fixtures work when remodeling instead of ripping out and starting from scratch. Of course it will depend on the shape of your home and the rooms you are remodeling. If your house is falling apart then you might just need to start from scratch. If the foundation is good however and things are in working order then using existing fixtures and refinishing, painting, and hardware changes can make a big difference.
