How to update your look without having to replace everything in the room
Maybe you feel like it is time for a change in your décor, but your budget will not allow for a remodeling of your humble abode. Sometimes just updating the look in one or two rooms of your home will give it a fresh new look without overextending your expenses. There are a lot of ways to do just that. You can update your look without having to replace everything in the room!
Rearrange the furniture
You will be surprised at how rearranging the furniture in the room will give it a whole new look and feel. Before you go out to replace the decorations in the room you want to change, try rearranging the furniture and other decorations in the room. Change the focus of the room. If you're updating your living room, try removing the main focus of the room like the television or couch. Face the furniture in the opposite direction, redistribute the pictures and other decorations that adorn your walls or gather the couches and chairs together to make a cozy and intimate conversational seating grouping.
One new focus piece
Choosing one focus piece can add new life to the décor of your room. You can even build off of the color scheme of your new piece and add to the décor to make a real difference in the appearance of your room. Maybe you've purchased a new lamp, or a painting, or a cover for your couch or overstuffed chair. Perhaps you've found the perfect drapes for that oddly sized window. When you choose the perfect place for your lovingly chosen new piece you can rearrange the items in the room to allow the new piece to be the more focused upon piece in the room, or the more focused upon color scheme. Add a few throw pillows to your couch or bed that match your new drapes, or lamp. Use a rug to pull out the colors in your new couch or chair cover. Any one of these things will draw the eye and change the entire look of your room.
Paint goes a long way
Painting your walls can be really fun. You can update your décor in so many ways with just a little paint. Paint one wall a different color from the rest of them creating an accent color drawing focus to that area of the room and the decorations that surround it. Just paint the top or bottom half of the walls and add a chair rail or stripe to give it an entirely different feel. Paint the main piece of furniture in the room a different color and it will be like having new furniture again. You can use paint to update your look in so many ways. Paint all the picture frames in the room so that they match, paint stripes that are a different color than your walls are now or paint a border around the top of the wall.
Replace the hardware in the room
If your kitchen or bathroom needs a fresh new look try replacing the hardware on your drawers and cabinets. This will update your look tremendously and add new character to a dull and lifeless room. Adding hardware such as knobs and handles to cabinet doors and drawers that do not already have them will give it a more distinguished and classy look and feel.
Whatever way that you choose to update your look you will be pleased with how a little can go a long way when it comes to decorating. You may choose to use one of the tips listed here or a combination of several of them. Add your own ideas and see what a difference it makes in the scheme of things.
