Remodeling the laundry room

If you plan on remodeling the laundry room, you need to take a look at your existing laundry room and decide if it is easier to remodel it or build a new one in a different location on your home. You must have connections for the washer and dryer so be sure you have those connections ready if you are moving your laundry room. The washer requires a water connection and the dryer requires an electric hookup of a 220 volt circuit.
Many laundry rooms are located in the basement because moving the laundry room to another location in the home is a safety issue. The common concern about moving a laundry room is the fire safety issues and flooding problems. If your washer is upstairs and the hose comes unhooked, it could potentially flood your entire house. Sadly, the U.S. Consumer Product safety Commission states there are 15,500 fires, 10 deaths and 10 injuries associated with dryers. Many clothes dryers require longer ventilation cords to be installed if they are moved from the basement and they may require more bends, causing a buildup of lint that can overheat the dryer.
