Paint, a remodeler's favorite tool

If you've thought about remodeling your home at all there's a pretty good chance you are thinking about painting something in your home. Be it your walls, the cabinets, a piece of furniture or any other number of things that could be painted to give your décor a fresh new look. Paint is fairly inexpensive making is a remodeler's favorite tool.

Painting walls
There are so many options to painting walls in your home. Sometimes knowing what kind of paint design you want to go for will help you get a feel for the new ambiance you want your room to offer its inhabitants. You always have the option of painting your walls a new color but sometimes there are other options when painting walls. If you feel the color you have chosen for a particular room will be too overbearing you may want to paint just half the wall that color. You can use a chair rail that you purchase at any hardware store to separate the wall in half. Paint just the top half or just the bottom half. You will be surprised at the difference it will make in the room. Another way to go about painting with bold colors that you may not want to seem too overbearing is to paint just one or two walls in the room, creating an accent. It is a great way to utilize the color you want without having it completely dominate the room.

Painting in your kitchen
When you paint the walls in your kitchen you can also apply the same different styles as you would in any other room. A kitchen can be a lot of fun because there are a lot of painting options. For a complete remodel paint your walls and your cabinets. You probably want to paint the walls and cabinets contrasting colors. Painting your kitchen can give it a total remodel without a huge effort or spending a lot of money. When painting your cabinets be sure to remove knobs and handles before getting started. Painting your kitchen can give your space a fresh new face and an entirely new feel. The effect a little paint has goes a long way.

Painting other furniture
Painting a piece of furniture can make it seem brand new. Before you get started painting that old table, desk, dresser or chair examine the piece to determine what you are painting and what will need to be done to prepare it for painting. Is the piece hardwood or is it pressed wood? Do you need to sand away old finish before painting? Are there cracks or gouges that need to be repaired before you add that fresh new coat of paint? All of these things will need to be taken into account before the paint can be applied to the furniture. It is better to take off old finish before repainting so that your new coats of paint will adhere better and you will find you need less coats of paint in this case to keep old finish or blemishes from showing through.

Paint can add so much to your décor that you would not think of otherwise. Try painting all of your picture frames the same color in one room, then stand back and enjoy the effect this will make on the overall appearance of the room. Add a painted trim to top of your walls or to pieces of your furniture to give the look more depth and a classy remodel. You will be surprised at the fresh new look a little paint gives to your home. This is one of the many reasons that Paint is a remodeler's favorite tool.
