Questions to ask when checking references for contractors
You will want to make sure that when you are deciding on who you want to hire as your contractor that you make sure that you look at a couple of different contractors and that you make sure that you find out as much information as you can on the different contractors so that you can make the best decision possible. You will want to make sure that you can get a long with the contractor that you choose because of the fact that this is the person that is going to be the one that help you build your dreams and make them a reality. One way to make sure that you get the best contractor for you is to check the references of the different contractors you are deciding between. Here are some tips on the different questions to ask when checking references for contractors.
The first tip is to make sure that you call a few references for each contractor. You want to make sure that there is more than one person that has something good about the contractors that you are thinking about hiring. You will also want to take into consideration anything that the references say that is negative. You will want to keep in mind that there are people out there that are not happy no matter what any one does to make them happy. You should be able to pick those people out among everyone else if they don't have anything positive but all of the other references you contact have great things to say about the contractors then you might want to think about disregarding what that one reference that had nothing but bad things to say. Just to be safe you might want to ask the other references that used the same contractor if they experienced any of the problems that the one reference that was complaining did.
The second tip is to make sure that you ask how each contractor's craftsmanship was. You want to make sure that the person you choose to build your house does not do things cheaply. You want to make sure that if you want special upgrades you will want to ask the different references how the contractor was as far as special requests on upgrades and if they got the prices that they were promised for their upgrades or if they were charged more than expected.
The third tip is to ask how each contractor was as far as keeping to their schedule. You want to make sure that they are known for getting houses done on time or close to the dead line. You don't want to have to worry about having to ride your contractor to get anything done. Having to check up on your contractor and get your sub-contractors in to do their job is going to add more stress on you when the reason for paying a contractor is so that they can deal with the stress and make sure that everyone is getting and doing their work on time.
The fourth tip is to make sure that you ask all of the references how the contractor's prices compared to other contractors that they look into and what extras they got with the contractor they chose that they wouldn't have gotten with any other contractors. You will also want to make sure that you ask them how close their bid came into the final invoice. This will help you to get an idea of what contractors stick to their word and add extras for no extra charge and what contractors are going to charge you for every extra nail and screw they use.
It is better to ask more questions when you are checking references for contractors then not enough. If you don't ask any questions you might end up very unhappy and really fraustrated and not want to ever build another home again.
