Are you licensed?
This is a key questions when finding a sub for your home remodel. Most states require contractors, and sub-contractors to be licensed. Make sure your sub has their proper licenses to be able to work on your home. Don't be afraid to ask them to show you or even give you a copy of it. How long have you been in business?

When will the project start and when will it be completed?
A good sub will be able to tell you the dates of when they plan to start and finish. Ask them how early will their crew normally begin work and when will they normally quit for the day? This way you know what to plan for. You can schedule accordingly to their schedule. Now you can plan your meals and activities around what they are doing so you can still have some stability in your home during the remodel.

Will you inform me of delays?
A lot of times things come up that can delay a project. Make sure that you have good communication with your sub before the project starts. Ask if they will contact you when there are changes in the schedule. This way if you come home and they aren't there working when they should be, then you will know why they aren't there.

Are you currently working on other projects?
If they are working on other projects then chances are your sub has too much going on and they may not be able to give you the whole attention that you were wanting. You many consider getting someone else for the job who is just focused on your remodel. That way you know they don't have too much going on and they will be there day to day to see they project completed.

Can I get a list of references which I can contact?
Ask for a list of references from your sub. Make sure that the references have names, numbers and addresses. It is important to contact those references they give you. Ask the references if you can come over and take a look at the project the sub did for them. It is good to do your homework before agreeing to anyone. This way you can see how their previous work was and if you like it. Contact 3 to 5 references to make sure that each one was satisfied with the work.
