Remodeling a media room, what you should know

Media rooms have become increasingly more popular when families decide to remodel. Media rooms can be used for several different purposes; movie rooms, game rooms, and all sorts of entertainment. Remodeling isn't a one day project however, so here are some tips on what you should know about remodeling a media room.
Tip #1: Use the space wisely
Most media rooms are in the basement of homes because they're dark and quiet. Make sure that wherever you decide remodel the space for a media room to use the space wisely. Make sure you have enough space for what you're going to be building in. For example, if you're building a media room for the sole purpose of playing games then make sure you have a large enough space to set games up and play them. Think about constructing some built in shelves to store games on.
Tip #2: Add insulation
If you're adding a media room in the basement it's a good idea to add insulation into the ceiling; especially if you're creating a movie theater room. Adding insulation to the ceiling will keep the room warmer and muffle the sounds coming from upstairs to create a true movie theater effect.
Tip #3: Make it versatile
While most of us would love to remodel our home with a separate room for the movie theater and the game room, let's be realistic. Most of us don't have the space to do all that, not to mention the money so make your media room versatile. Instead of putting in theater seating just buy a nice flat screed TV for the wall so that you can watch movies whenever you want, but it's not strictly used for movie watching. Make it large enough so that you can play some fun games in it, but also cozy enough so that you can entertain and do other things as well. Versatility is the key when you remodel a media room.
Tip #4: Talk with contractors and designers
If it's in your budget, talking with contractors and designers about how you want the space to look will do you a lot of good. Contractors or designers can help you design a space that will fit your needs and your budget. They can work with you to create something unique and great. It can be hard sometimes to figure out how to best use the space on your own. Another persons view and opinion can go a long way.
Tip #5: Pick the right lighting and color
Lighting and color can make a hug difference when it comes to a media room. Color can add depth, warmth, or pretty much whatever kind of feel you're going for. How you texture the walls can do much the same thing and give a room a different feel so consider your paint pallet and texturing carefully. Lighting also makes a big difference in how a room feels. Inset lighting can make a room much brighter than if you just have one light in the middle of the room. Once you have figured out what you will be using the media room for, think carefully about what type of lighting you will use.
These are just a few tips on what you should know about remodeling a media room. Depending on what you use the room for will depend on what amenities you want to add and how much space you will make room for.
