Remodeling the Play Room

If you would like to create a play room for your children, or remodel an existing one, then you are in luck. Remodeling the play room doesn't take a lot of work and the end result will be spectacular.
The best place for a play room is the basement. The basement allows for children to be in an area where they won't bother anyone else in the home if they begin getting noisy and disruptive. The play room can be a reflection of your children, by allowing them to paint murals on the wall. One popular idea for a play room is to make it a themed room, like a room with barn animals, the solar system, or the jungle. Purchase several acrylic paint colors and start with a solid base coat color. For a farm room, begin by painting white on the entire wall and then add colors like green, red and blue to make the sky, land and the barn. Have your children help you paint animals on the wall like cows, pigs, ducks, and other animals.
The same rules apply for the solar system and the jungle. The solar system will start with black acrylic paint and can be brightened up with the different colors of the planets and the sun. You can paint white or yellow specks for stars, or you can purchase glow in the dark stars to illuminate the room when the lights are turned out. The jungle will begin with a dark coat of green and lighter greens and browns to make vines and trees. Your children can help by painting monkeys, snakes, and other fun jungle animals.
Transforming a themed room into a new play room can be just as fun as making one for younger children. Select a neutral color such as light yellow or tan. You can install nice cabinets that can store all the toys and movies. The cabinets can also include a space for a TV and video gaming systems. You can build cabinets yourself or you can purchase them from Lowes or Home Depot. The cost will vary depending upon the style of cabinet you purchase and the finish.
Since children tend to spill drinks and make messes, consider replacing the carpet with hardwood floors or tile. Hardwood floors can match the new cabinets your have installed to create a nice, flowing look. Of course you can always re-carpet the play room for around $1600. This cost is for a cheap carpet, with a thin pad and a standard size 20x20 room.
If you have younger children, another fun option you have is to make an entire wall a chalkboard or a magnetic board. This allows for a unique activity area and your children can draw on the walls without damaging the walls. Corkboard is another fun thing to have in a play room. Corkboard is also another unique wall to have in your play room. Be sure to use pins that are safe so your children don't hurt themselves.
A game rug is a fun addition to your play room as well. When you begin decorating, decide what types of games your children normally play. A game rug featuring cars and roads may be fun for a little boy while a tic-tac-toe game rug will be perfect for a little girl.
As you begin decorating your new play room, be sure to have fun and be creative. Allow your children to help you decorate the play room and decide the colors on the wall or the theme of their play room, it will be a nice way to bond with your child and have them involved in the play room remodel.
