When you set out to change your child's room to be a teenager's room, the basic design should be simple. A teenager's room should be designed so it is simple enough to keep clean and organized. Purchasing functional teen furniture will make it easy to allow for an organized room to be kept and study habits to be promoted.

As you are looking at the design of your child's room and deciding how to convert it to a teen room, ask your teen for input regarding a theme or decoration. Loft beds or truck beds are great for freeing up space. Underneath the loft, you should be able to store a computer desk or a small workspace. By using a loft bed or trunk bed, you will leave plenty of room for other items like bookcases, beanbag chairs, and entertainment centers.

Storage and accessibility are the largest factors to consider when remodeling your child's room to be a teenager's room. If you have a teenage daughter, consider expanding the closet space to allow for extra shoes and clothes. By giving her a larger closet, it will avoid piles of clothes to be strung out all over the bedroom floor. Take the current closet and measure out how far into the room you would like the closet to expand. Frame off this area and knock out the wall that separates the old closet from the new one. Sheet rock the new closet and mud it, once it has dried you can paint it. The inside should be large enough to hold 2 shelves and different sized poles to hold a variety of clothing.

You must also select a new color to paint the walls that is neutral. The bright colors of a child's room need to be covered up with white, tan, or a light pastel color. Change the lighting in the room as well. The new lighting needs to be bright enough that a teen can study and see their books without falling asleep.

Many parents have painted their children's names on the wall when it was a child's room. As a teen, having your name painted on the wall isn't as cool as it was when you were 5. Be sure that the paint job covers up your name on the wall to give you a clean, fresh look.

You must also consider replacing the door with a thicker door, so the loud noises of the home don't distract your teen when they are in their room. It is also nice to provide them with a lock for added privacy, especially if they have younger siblings.

Just because they are a teenager doesn't mean they have to study all the time. The room remodel needs to have a comfort zone area that allows for cuddling up cozy and reading or just relaxing to music. A beanbag chair, big pillows, plush chairs, or inflatable chairs are a great way to create a relaxing environment. The comfort zone area needs to be large enough to allow for not only your teen to relax in, but for a couple of their friends as well. The area should also include a space large enough to store their music, books, or gaming equipment.

If you do not wish to paint the room, pick out a simple wall paper border that can be used to decorate the room. Adding a wall paper border is simple and is a quick and easy way to create a new look to the room. With the right decorations and furniture, it will be each to transform your child's room into a stylish teen room in a few hours.
