Remodeling your kitchen, how to save money
There are a so many different projects that you can do around your house. One project that not only helps transform the way your house looks but also helps the resale value of your home is your kitchen. If you want to remodel your kitchen but don't want to spend a lot of money here are some tips to help you.
The first tip is to make sure that you shop around and get the right price. Depending on how in depth you are going on your kitchen will also depend on how you can save money. If you are replacing your cabinets and want to do some custom work it might be cheaper to go through a custom cabinet shop rather then go with some one like Home Depot or Lowes. The reason why it might be cheaper is because Home Depot and Lowes only carry certain kinds of woods which are more expensive then other woods that you can get through custom cabinet makers.
The second tip is to pick a cheaper wood. For example Knotty alder is going to be cheaper then cherry wood or hickory. Wood is an easy thing to change and save money on. You will want to make sure that you go to two or three different people and get price comparisons of different woods and what they charge. This will help you to get a better idea of which woods to look a and which woods to stay away from.
The third tip is to pick a different style of doors. Some cabinet shops will charge more for bead board doors then they do for arched or square doors where as other cabinet shops charge more for arched doors then they do for bead board. It is very important that you clarify with the different cabinet shops what style of cabinet doors you are looking at so that you get the right price and just don't assume that because you are going with bead board it is going to be the cheapest.
The fourth tip is the staining and glazing of cabinets. This also can save you a lot of money. Most cabinet places will charge extra for staining and then if you glaze over the top of that you will get charged even more. So make sure that if you are trying to cut back that you cut back on the staining and glazing to help with the cost.
The fifth tip is the counter tops. Counter tops are a great way to cut back. For example if you go with granite counter tops that is one of the most expensive counter tops. So instead to cut costs you can look into solid surface counter tips or Formica counter tops. Formica is going to be by far the cheapest options out there. If you want granite you can shop around and see if you can find a place that has a cheaper sq foot then other places. Finding some one that is $10.00 to $20.00 cheaper is going to save you a lot of money. You will need to be careful though because some people might claim to be cheaper but they might only be offering a limited amount of colors to choose from. You will want to make sure that you find out all of the details before you commit to a good price.
These are just some of the tips on how to save money when you are remodeling your kitchen. There are a lot of other things that you can do to cut costs like getting cheaper faucets and sinks. It is up to you house much you want to up grade and down grade to save some money.
