Resurface or replace tubs?
When you are remodeling a home, you will always want to look for ways that you can save a little bit of money! One of the most expensive rooms to remodel is the bathroom - there are so many fixtures that you need to either replace or resurface! One of the most expensive things to purchase for a bathroom remodel is the bathtub! If at all possible, you should try to find out if you can resurface your tub instead of replacing the tub. If there is enough existing value left in the tub, then you will want to see if it is possible to resurface the tub. This way, you can save a lot of money during your remodeling project! Here are some things to think about to help you decide if you should resurface or replace your tub:
Has the tub been burned, worn, or cracked? If your tub has been worn, burned or cracked, then the surface of your bathtub has been made a little more porous than it was intended to be! If your tub has become porous, you probably are able to see a lot of grime and dirt that has collected in the pores of the tub. If your tub is still in pretty good condition (i.e. the cracks are not large and they don't leak water), then you probably can just resurface your tub instead of replacing it! This way, you will be able to have a tub that looks just like new for only a fraction of the cost of replacing a tub! However, if the cracks are very serious and large in your tub, then it might be a better idea to simply replace the tub. It is likely that you will have to keep patching and resurfacing the tub every few years, and you might end up saving money by just getting a new tub once and for all!
Will you want to resurface again in 5-7 years? Another thing that you will want to consider is if you will want to resurface your tub again in 5-7 years. The resurfacing of a tub does not last forever, so you will want to consider this. Perhaps you will feel like you "got your money's worth" out of the tub in 5-7 more years, and then you will feel like it is a good time to replace the tub. However, if you would rather just avoid the cost of having to resurface once and then replace a few years later, you might want to just replace the tub now and avoid the extra cost of resurfacing once.
Will the color of the tub match? Another thing that you will want to consider is if the color and style will match the décor of the rest of the bathroom. If you are changing the colors in your bathroom, then maybe your tub will not match at all! If this is the case, it is likely that you will want to replace the tub in the bathroom. In addition, if the style of the tub does not match your remodeling and decoration, then you will probably want to replace it as well.
Replacing a tub can be an extremely expensive project, and it is likely that you will want to look into resurfacing options before you to decide to replace the tub altogether. However, you may find that replacing the tub is necessary in order to match with the style or color of the room. If you have further questions about resurfacing or replacing a tub, you can ask a bathroom contractor for additional help.
