Save $ By Planning

Construction has a lot of parts, there are inspections, dimensions, specifications, sequences, and lots of different contractors and sub contractors that will need to be hired to get the job done. When you build a house, if you do not have a good system for keeping track of everything, your project will be chaos, and you will likely go way over budget, and not be able to finish your house. So, the solution to this problem is to spend sufficient time planning, and make sure you are organized. Then, you will have no trouble at all (haha, not true, but the amount of problems you run into will reduce significantly) and you will save a lot of money by planning.
What can planning do for you?
Taking the time to ensure proper planning does many things for you, and of course one of those things is it makes your life much easier. But the big thing it does is it saves you money. And we all want to save money! Especially when it comes to building our dream home, saving money is going to be huge to you if you want to stay under budget, and get the results you are hoping for at the price tag you are hoping for.
Equation for saving money!
When it comes to building your own house, there is a simple equation that will help you save a ton of money, this equation is no joke, it works every time you implement it into your project:
Spending time planning = saving time building = saving money!
Where are your savings?
The money you save comes in many different forms, and sometimes you won't even realize how much you saved because you did not run into the costly problems others do from not planning well.
The savings from planning will manifest themselves through every aspect of the construction process. So, now you will want to know a few of those specific places, and get an idea of just how much money proper planning really can save you. When you get an idea of the savings planning can bring, you might not be as anxious to break ground right away. Instead you will want to make sure you have covered your bases, have all the details planned out, and have everything ready and set before you start. And, that is how it should be. You should have every aspect planned out, and then start the actual work. If you do this you are sure to save. So, the following is a list of places you will save if you spend time to plan:
- You will save on bids because they will be more accurate: Basically if you plan well you will give exact plans to subs for bids, and therefore your costs will be exact rather than ballpark.
- You will save by not making as many changes: changes are expensive, especially ones that mean you have to rip out walls, and redo floors etc. The fewer changes you have the cheaper your project will be. If you plan well you won't have nearly as many changes.
- You will save by finding deals on materials: you will have plenty of planning time to shop around and compare prices, that way you buy things from the places that have the best prices, and save thousands.
- You will save by not paying as much interest: when the building starts so does the interest clock. You can plan for free, so plan for a long time and don't plan while you are paying interest.
- You will save by finishing faster: if your plans are good, your project will move forward with very few hiccups, so you will be able to finish on time meaning you will pay less in interest, and also in labor.
- You will save by having a better house for the money: the planning stage is where you save the most money. So, plan to save, and you will. Then you will have a house with a much higher appraised value than it will cost you to build. That means instant equity, and a higher net worth.
