Should you get a home warranty?
There are a lot of different things that you will want to look into when you build or buy a new home. One thing that you might want to consider is getting a home warranty. A home warranty can sometime be helpful but can sometimes just end up costing you more money then it is worth. Here are some things to keep in mind if you are wondering if you should get a home warranty.
The first thing is if you are building a new home. If you have a builder building your home you will want to make sure that you check out what type of warranty they have to offer. The reason for this is because usually home warranties only cover certain things and are only good for a certain amount of time. Which if your house is brand new and your builder warranties the house for the first year you won't want to spend the extra money unless you have certain reasons for wanting an extra home warranty.
The second thing is if you are buying an existing home. It might be a good idea to buy a home warranty if the home you are buying has been lived in by some one else. The reason for this is so that you can be prepared incase something happens. For example say that something does out right after you move in. Instead of you having to pay for it if you have bought a home warranty some one else will have to foot the bill. You will want to make sure though that if you get a home warranty that you pay attention to what is included. Not everything is included in home warranties so if there is something particular that you are worried about you might want to see if it is not part of the home warranty if there is anyway to have it added on.
The third thing is if you are building a home yourself. In this case if you used a lot of sub contractors they should warranty their work along with materials for a year. The work that you did yourself will not be under warranty but the materials and parts you bought are more than likely under warranty for a certain amount of time. Because of this it is going to be a tough call whether or not you want to pay the extra money for one. The best thing to do is to weigh your pros and cons against one another and see what one wins. For example if something breaks the part is probably under warranty still and if you know how to fix it you will end up saving money because you won't have to pay the home warranty fee and can just fix it yourself. Plus you won't have to go through the hassle of calling and making a claim and waiting for them to respond back to you and then figure out if they are going to cover it or not.
These are just a few of the things to help you answer the question should you get a home warranty. It is all a personal preference as to what type of person you are and if you want to deal with something that might be a hassle. If you would rather just be able to call some one and have the problem fixed then you might want to think about a home warranty but if you are one that is going to fix it yourself anyway you might want to think about saving your money and not getting a home warranty. There is no right or wrong answer is all comes down to you have a choice to make should you get a home warranty.
