Tips for choosing bathroom counters

Remodeling your bathroom takes a lot of work. One of the most important parts is choosing your bathroom counter. It has to match the rest of the bathroom and be able to be functional as well. Here are some tips for choosing the right bathroom counter.
There are many different types of materials that you can use. Don't worry about color quite yet because chances are, the material you pick will come in whatever color you want. There are many popular options like granite or tile, but think about the décor you have in the bathroom and the rest of your house, and also what you want. Just because everyone has granite doesn't mean that it will be a great choice for you.
Some materials that you can choose from are:
Granite. There are many different designs and styles that you can choose from. It is usually best in bathrooms that are traditional with a look of luxury. There are different types of finishes so you can have it look at shiny or dull as you want it.
Tile. There are thousands of different types of tiles. You can get big or small, painted or plain, grout lines or hardly any grout lines. The price can be very cheap for the tiles and you can usually install them yourself, with the help of a few special tools. There are also tiles that aren't made from stone, they are like giant stickers that look just like stone. They don't last as long but are a good idea for a quick remodel or if you are planning on replacing them in a few years.
Other stone. You can use other types of stone for countertops. They aren't as popular but still look good. The only downside is that they may not last as long as they aren't as strong and can keep stains.
There are the traditional solid surface materials, like laminate, that are common in many bathrooms. They come in many different colors and are extremely easy to clean. The only bad thing is, they hold on to stains easier and can scorch easily from heat.
Wood. If you are creating a cabin feel to your bathroom, wood might be a good choice for your bathroom. It is usually only a good idea for areas that aren't around water because the wood can warp easily, just like if you had wood floors in your kitchen.
Concrete. Concrete is another option that has become much more popular over the past few years. It can be molded into any shape and so it is great for a non traditional shaped bathroom or counter. It also lasts a very long time and comes in many different colors.
If you do use wood or tile, you will have many small cracks in the counter. They can be hard to clean and can start looking dirty very soon. If you have tile, then you will also have to clean the grout every few months. Mold and mildew also tend to get in the cracks. It can warp the wood and make the counter very dirty.
When you buy your countertop for the bathroom, just remember that you want it to last for a long time. You don't want to spend your time and money buying something that will be outdated, look dirty or horrible in 3 years, so invest in something that will last a little longer, or realize that you will have to clean it more often
