Choosing the right flooring for your home is a difficult decision. There are hundreds of different options when it comes to your floor; hardwood, tile, laminate, colors, hardness, will it last? So many questions for just a floor. Linoleum is another option when it comes to flooring, but with so many choices how do you make an educated decision on what to use? Here are some tips for choosing linoleum.

Tip #1: Educate yourself
Since there are several different options available to use and a number of different colors you should educate yourself before you actually go shopping. There are a number of different ways to do this. Most stores have a website that you can browse through different flooring options at. This is a good way to become familiar with different styles and colors of linoleum. You can also order a catalog and look through this way. And lastly you can always go down to your local flooring or "home" store to see what the options are and ask questions. This might be the best option as you can really see what it looks like or if it will match the room, etc. Just don't buy anything on your first trip.

Tip #2: Compare and Price
Everything comes at a different price so if you want to find the best linoleum for the best price possible then you're going to have to do your homework. Go to different flooring stores and see what their prices are. Some stores will price match so it doesn't hurt to ask if you find something somewhere if they'll match the price you found. Compare different qualities of the linoleum you have found and like. Don't go out and buy the first thing you see just because you don't like to shop because it's more than likely that you can find a better price somewhere else.

Tip #3: Cheap isn't always better
Don't fool yourself into thinking that all linoleum is the same so you should just buy the cheapest one. If you look closely at different types of linoleum you will see that some is thicker than others and much more durable. The thing you need to remember about linoleum is that although it is fairly durable it can dent or damage if you drop sharp objects on it. In most cases it can be patched or fixed but you should look for a middle grade quality linoleum flooring. The low end linoleum is not cost effective and has a shorter life.

Tip #4: Look for neutral colors and patterns

Unless you are one hundred percent sure that you will be living in your house for the rest of you life and willing to change it as the times change stick with flooring that is fairly neutral in colors and patterns. Choosing neutral colors and patterns will more likely go with the décor of the house and room but it will also make it easier to sell down the road.

Tip #5: Gets some instruction on installing

If you decide on using linoleum because it is durable, and easy to take care of then make sure you have the right instruction on how to install it. Most "home" store employees can point you in the right direction, but if at all possible try and see if friends or family can actually show you. Linoleum will only last as long as the effort and correctness you used to put it in.

Nothing makes over a home faster than installing new flooring, but make sure you take time to research and figure out what type of linoleum will look and work the best for your home.
