If you are building or remodeling your house, there are some things to consider with the future in mind. Too often people build homes with just the necessities that they need without focusing on the things they may need later. Making decisions based on the future can really make it convenient down the road. Here are some tips for doing your wiring and plumbing with the future in mind.

With technology the way it is, we may not have any idea what kind of wiring we will be using in the future? Most likely we will still using wire and it will be very helpful if you have thought ahead and placed empty conduits around the house. Not only will you be glad you did, but it will be much appreciated by the technician that will be trying to connect that new device you just bought to add to your home.

Multiple conduits are a necessity. Make sure to include conduits that connect different areas of the house to one another. Having multiple conduits going up in your attic and into different rooms in the house will make it easier in the future when you want to add a new ceiling fan, speakers, a new light fixture or something else that you may have in mind.

There is no doubt that adding extra wiring will increase the resale value of your home, and make it more attractive for buyers when you eventually sell it. Again this will add not only comfort to your home, but convenience that you can both enjoy while you live in your home.

Doing plumbing for the future will also make things more convenient down the road when you want to put some new accessories in your home. Put in extra water lines that can be used for future things such as a whirlpool or an added place for a hose on the outside wall to water your garden or flowers with.

Try to think of every possible update that you will want to do on your home for the future. In doing this you will make sure that when you add these things it won't be a headache for you, it will be very easy for whoever is adding those items.

Here are some other wiring and plumbing that you can do to prepare for the future:

  • an electrical work with capacity for a future addition on your house
  • wiring for a new workshop
  • added wiring for an outdoor hot tub
  • in-the-wall wiring for electronics in every room
  • extra wiring for a new and improved future home theater
  • rough plumbing for a future half bath
  • wiring for future lighting fixtures
  • an added gas line for a future fireplace

Following these tips for doing your wiring and plumbing with the future in mind will ease the pain when it comes time to add that new ceiling fan or hot tub. Plus, this way you won't have to tear down half the house trying to re-wire it all. Having it done already will make it easy and in turn won't cause a huge mess in your house and it will save you a lot of money. Take the time to think smart and keep the future in mind when you are wiring and installing plumbing in your home. You may not think you will need that extra stuff now, but one day you will and you will be grateful that you took the added precautions.
