Tips for remodeling a master suite

The master suite can be one of the most difficult rooms to finish in a home because it sometimes is the last thing you get to. With all the other needed changes in remodeling the master suite doesn't get a whole lot of attention. Master suites however are just as important as the rest of the home and when it comes to remodeling you want to take as much time as you did on the rest of the house. Here are some tips for remodeling a master suite.
- Do you need to change the structure of the room? One of the first things you need to ask yourself is if the structure is sound or if you would like to change it at all. If you live in a newer home you may already have the space you want but want to make other changes. If you live in an older home however you may not have the space you want in a master suite or you might want to add a master bathroom. This is something you need to consider before you start the remodel because tearing out walls and adding a room will take considerably more time and money than just smaller fixes.
- Are you trying to sell? If you're trying to sell your home there will be some different things to consider than if are just remodeling for yourself. If you are planning to sell your home you will have to carefully consider what the trends are, what painting colors you will use, and even just picking the colors for the bedroom. Remodeling to sell and remodeling to live in can create two different looks. If you want to remodel to sell then you will to stick to painting with neutral colors as buyers usually like to see neutral colors rather than bold and bright colors on a wall. But keep in mind that neutral colors doesn't mean you have to just use white; neutral colors can be found in the middle of the color stick in all different colors. The same goes for carpet colors, drapery, and bathroom color choices as well.
- Adding a master bathroom. If you don't already have a bathroom in the master suite then you will definitely want to consider adding one to the room. Master bathrooms are as much of a necessity as they are convenience these days. There aren't many homes being built today that don't have a master bathroom in the master bedroom. Having a master bathroom can also help add value to the home if you're thinking of selling it. If there's anything in a master suite you want to spend money on it's a bathroom; don't go cheap, after all it's going to be your bathroom.
- Decorative touches. Many people that remodel homes and especially master suites will fix everything from the bathroom, painting walls, and even replace the carpet but will forget about adding the finishing touches like window treatments. A bedroom can still look unfinished if you forget to add all those decorative touches at the end of the day. Drapes, curtains, and other types of window treatments will make your bedroom look done and give it a different feel when it's all done. So even though you've finished all the hard labor work, don't neglect to add some decorative touches.
Remodeling a master suite can be very exciting as it's probably the room you sleep in. Taking time to consider choices, colors, and other important things like adding a bathroom can really pay off in the end. Hopefully these tips for remodeling a master suite will help you build the room of your dreams.
