What to do if you are not happy with the subcontractor's quality of work

Are you building a home and you are disappointed with the outcome so far? Are you not pleased with the work that your subcontractor has been doing? Unfortunately, bad work does happen and there are some things that you can do to get out of this awful situation. Don't let you subcontractor continue working if you are not completely satisfied with the work that is being done. Here is what to do if you are not happy with your subcontractor's quality of work:
Contact contractor
The contractor acts as the go-between for the client and the subcontractor. If you are not satisfied with the sub-contractor then you should contact the one who is in charge, the contractor or the project manager. If something is being done during the construction process that you are not satisfied with, then it should be brought to the contractor's attention immediately, so it can be dealt with as soon as possible. Being that the contractor is responsible for the sub-contractor then it is their responsibility to have any unsatisfactory work repaired as quickly as possible.
Termination clause
Before you even hire your subcontractor, make sure that you have a termination clause in your contract. Include a termination clause in your contract which state that the contract can be terminated if the subcontractor fails to achieve a certain amount of work in a certain amount of time. This clause will help you to take corrective action at an early stage if your subcontractor isn't complying with their obligations in the contract. If it is written right in the contract, then they cannot dispute it and must follow it in order to get paid and not be terminated.
Replacement
It is a good idea to do plenty of homework before you even start your project. At the beginning stages when you are getting quotes from different contractors and subcontractors, you should have some back-up options in case something does go wrong. If you are not satisfied with your subcontractor, then replace them with one you have already met with and told that you may use in such a situation. A replacement subcontractor will also need to be contracted to complete the remaining work. In that event, the contractor would be required to take up the role performed by the subcontractor, or retain a replacement subcontractor that gets approved by you first. Remember, you don't have to use the contractor's subcontractor, you can hire your own to do the work.
It is never fun to have to deal with people who won't or can't do their jobs right. It can be extremely frustrating to try and work with people who are lazy and inconsiderate of your time and money. If you aren't happy with the way your home building is going then you should make sure that you do something about it. It doesn't have to be too terribly unpleasant if you follow these tips on what to do if you are not happy with the subcontractor's quality of work.
Don't end up living in a home that wasn't built properly. Stand up to the work crew that is building your home and let them know that you expect a job well done. Take the proper steps with your subcontractor and you will have a much better experience as your home is being built and you will be able to appreciate a better quality of work.
