What you should include in the initial stages, even if you do not put items in

When you are building a home there are going to be a lot of things that you want to include but may not be able to afford up front. You will want to make sure that think about all of the items that you would like to have and then think about having them roughed in even if you don't put the actual items in right at first. Here are some ideas of what you should include in the initial stages, even if you do not put the items in.

The first thing is a fireplace. If you really want a fireplace but know that you can't afford one at the moment you might want to think about having your HVAC guys run the gas lines for a fireplace. Make sure that you have a spot picked out so that you can be specific about where you want the lines ran to. If you are also thinking about getting a natural gas BBQ grill you might want to think about having your HVAC guys stub for that also. This will make it a lot easier for you when it comes time to buy a natural gas grill.

The second thing is a security system or intercom. You want to make sure that if this is something that you want further down the road that you wire for it in the rough in. The reason why you may want to do this is so that further down the road you are not going to have to pay more money to have it retried in which means they are going to have to cut holes in your walls which you will have to pay some one to come in and fix. Instead if it is pre wired all they have to do is come in and take off the face plate and put in the system.

The third thing is a water softener. Usually the plumber will give you the option of stubbing for a water softener. This might be a good idea because then instead of having to go through all the hassle of having a plumber come back out and put it in later all you have to do is order the unit. It also might save you money because some plumbers will do it for cheaper if they are doing other work for you rather then if they are just coming out to put in a water softener.

The fourth thing is central air. If you are not planning on getting it right now you still might want to think about having your HVAC guys rough in for it so that they don't have to come back later and putting it in. Which might end up costing you more because it is going to be more work fir them to come back later and put it in.

The fifth thing is a central vacuum. If you love the idea of having a central vacuum but just don't have the extra money you might want to spend a little more just to have it roughed in so when you do have the extra money for the central vacuum all you have to do is get the equipment and have the rest of it hooked into the pipes and everything that you already have roughed in.

These are just examples of some of the things that you should include in the initial stages, even if you do not put the items in. This will help you not only save time down the road but also possibly money.
