When remodeling, how to keep existing value

If you are remodeling your home or thinking about possibly remodeling your home, it is likely that you are worried about keeping the existing value of the home. No body wants to put a lot of work and money into remodeling, just to find out that the value of there home as decreased! Instead, you want to make sure that the money spent on remodeling is an investment which will either increase the home value or at least keep it at the same level that it was at before. Here are some things that you can do to keep existing value when remodeling:

1. Be careful with garage transitions: One thing that you might want to be a little wary of is garage transitions, particularly if you are worried about keeping the existing value of your home. The absence of a garage can put a house at a disadvantage and subsequently lower the value of the home. One thing that you might want to consider is only remodeling one half-of the garage, particularly if you have a two or three door garage. This way, you will be able to keep at least part of the area as a garage for parking your car, so that your home will not go down in value. Above all, you should try to make the new room in the garage space appear to be like the rest of the house. Many people feel like garage transitions are not tastefully done very often. If you are set on remodeling part of your garage, make sure that the transition is smooth and works with your floor plan, so that you can keep the existing value of your house.

2. Try to build upwards instead of outwards: It has been suggested that one of the likely ways to keep the existing value of your home is to build upward instead of outward. This way, you will be able to retain space in your backyard or front yard, but you will also have more space within your actual house. In addition, building upwards instead of outwards also is recommended because it often doesn't leave the floor plan of the house appearing awkward or inconsistent. Second floor additions over a garage are one of the ways that you can build upwards instead of outwards.
3. Remodel your interior design: Another way to keep the existing value of your home is to keep the same structure of the home, but to remodel the area with more modern or contemporary design. Today it is very popular to remodel the kitchen or the master bath in the home with a more updated, popular design. By changing and updating the interior decoration of the home, you will not have to worry and lowering the value of the home at all, because you will not be knocking out any walls or changing any other part of the home structure. Instead, by making things look more updated and contemporary, it is much more likely that your home could go upwards in value!

As you can see, there are a lot of things that you can do to keep the existing value of your place while remodeling. If you have further questions about keeping the value of your home, it would be a good idea to speak with an appraiser and see what they think. This way, you will not make the mistake of decreasing the value of your home after you have already completed remodeling! Instead, you will be able to focus on keeping the existing value or adding onto the value of your home!
